Cassowary House is a small family run guest house which lies in the world heritage tropical rain forests of far north Queensland, within 30 minutes drive of Cairns. It was established in 1985 as a guest-house for those with an interest in natural history, particularly birds. It was one of the first birding businesses to set up in Far North Queensland.

Accommodation includes 4 rooms, two en suite double rooms and two singles that have individual showers but share a toilet. Catbird Cottage, a self-contained cabin in the grounds may also be available. We offer top quality fresh home cooked food in friendly, comfortable surroundings. All dietary needs can be catered for with due notice. The grounds and surrounding area are unspoilt rainforest, a great place to sit and relax or take quiet walks. Feel free to take it easy on our verandah while watching the wealth of birds that come down in to the nearby trees and garden. This is also a good place for those with an interest in bird photography. We have an extensive library of bird and natural history books to help you identify what you see. Bird and mammal lists are available on request, as are e-mail facilities.

Expert guiding for birds and natural history is available, with either Phil, or other local professional guides. Phil is an experienced bird guide who currently runs Sicklebill Safaris as well as working for leading bird tour companies and would be happy to help you with your birding wants and queries... more
